UNDRR Africa Youth Art Competition 2024 for Young Artists (Fully Funded to Windhoek, Namibia)

Applications are now open for the 2024 UNDRR Africa Youth Art Competition. Young artists – amateurs or professionals- are encouraged to submit a piece that fits into IDDRR2024 theme and raise awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction. The photos of the art submitted will be showcased at the Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Windhoek, Namibia, scheduled for 21-24 October 2024. 

 The DRR Art Competition organized by Africa Youth Advisory Board on Disaster Risk Reduction (AYAB), Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM) and UNDRR aims to enhance awareness and understanding of disaster risk reduction (DRR) among young people, while also fostering creativity and artistic expression on the theme of DRR. The competition seeks to showcase the talent, voices and unique perspectives of young artists, inspiring both action and community engagement in DRR efforts.

Theme

  • The competition theme will be “Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future: A Creative Response to Disaster risk.” 
  • Artists are encouraged to explore various aspects of DRR that aligns to the AfRP theme “Act Now for the Resilient Africa We Want” and programme.

Eligibility Requirements

  • UNDRR welcome the participation of young individuals, aged between 18 and 35, from across Africa.
  • This initiative seeks to amplify their unique perspectives and experiences, recognizing their vital role in documenting and responding to climate challenges.

Benefit

  • The overall winner will receive an invitation to attend the Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, with travel and accommodation covered.
  • The top 30 participants will have a photo or video representation of their art piece screened at the Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Timeline:

  • Submission Deadline: 13 September 2024.
  • Announcement of the winner: 20 September 2024

How to Apply:

  • Please fill out the Microsoft form with all the requested information about the artist and the art piece. Include a link to a digital version of the art piece that can be downloaded (e.g., via Google Drive or YouTube).
  • Example: If you create a drawing, take a photo of the drawing, upload it to your Google Drive, and make sure the link is accessible to anyone with the link. Then, complete the Microsoft form and, on the second page, add the link to the photo on your Google Drive.
